The Energy Behind Yoga
There is a quote I love. Some say it’s Einstein’s, some say it’s not, but either way I appreciate the perspective, the message behind it. It may sound hokey, new-agey or “out there” but I think all you have to do is look at your life to see the relevance behind these words:
Everything is energy and that’s all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics.
Reflecting on my life, on the ups and downs, on the times where I feel fulfilled and excited versus the times I feel depleted and down, I can see these words at work. When my mental space is in a fear-based place, the situations I find myself in, the people I meet and outcomes I get are often not what I’m looking for, but clearly what I’m attracting. But, when I approached life from a place of trust, of faith, of non-attachment to the outcome things always seem to work themselves out better than I imagine.
Energy, prana or chi, that life-force that we’re made of and connects us all is very real. That is why sometimes you feel immediately drawn to someone while with someone else you feel like you just can’t connect. It’s why when your loved one is in a bad mood it’s hard to stay grounded and positive – or it’s how you can pull them out of their funk. Energy is a language of it’s own and the frequency you vibrate to determines what kind of people, situations and opportunities you draw into your life. You can see it in your relationships with others and with yourself; like attracts like as the old saying goes.
With that being said most people want to attract the best possible life for themselves. But it’s hard to be vibrating in bliss on the regular. It’s easy to say, “just find your happy place”, but for most of us, that’s really difficult to do. For me, yoga has helped me lift my vibration again and again. It’s not like I’m jumping octaves, but every time I do yoga I’m in a better place than when I started. It’s the combination of conscious breathing, releasing and creating space in the body through the postures, and the mental calmness that comes with the focus of the practice that leaves me feeling lighter and literally higher vibrationally. There are countless reasons to do yoga, physical reasons, mental reasons, emotional reasons; here’s an energetic one, and that’s the basis of everything else.
