[…] 2.) So today, I guess I am going to have a yoga theme Select 6 this week. Perhaps with this week’s readings, I feel a special sort of connection. In my undergraduate education, I took a year of Tai Chi. From this experience, I feel an awareness of the concept of “wobble” that is described in this week’s. Perhaps given my life circumstances, I need to have a reminder of growth and self love-this is why I have selected this article. […]

Over the past few years I've taken yoga classes here and there, when I wasn't busy doing ballet. However, I never really got into it until a few months ago. I was going through a really rough time; recovering from a tough break-up and not doing well in college. I had no motivation or passion for anything. Then I found myself being drawn back to yoga. I loved how it made me feel and also got the benefit of a good workout. Eventually, I found that I finally had a passion for something. Yoga (and music). I found myself wanting to teach yoga, and share the benefits of it with others. I approached my yoga instructor for some guidance as to how and where to get certified. She introduced me to YogaFit. At first I was a little apprehensive, but I found that I really enjoyed the YogaFit style and it's also a bit less expensive than other programs. I noticed that many other yoga practitioners tend to disparage YogaFit as not being "real yoga" and that "you can't experience 'true yoga' by going and getting certified over a weekend." Although I see their point, I have to disagree. There are different styles of yoga and we all have to start somewhere. Would you say YogaFit is looked down on in the yoga community? Shouldn't yogi's be accepting of other styles? As an aspiring yoga instructor, I'm curious. I want to learn as much as possible.

I love this thought! I hear all the time that people who practice hot yoga/non-traditional yoga or even if they call it yoga and not asana, that they are wrong. This brings a negative weight to the practice. We want to build the community, not tear it down! Thank you Kyle for spreading the good word :)
Well said, Kyle! I'm always on the lookout for teachers who explicitly acknowledge that their evolution is ongoing, and that they are fallible and human. The temptation to pose as a 'guru' can be seductive, but if one keeps one's eyes open, this kind of teacher is pretty easy to spot. In my experience, the more common situation is not running into a teacher that thinks they're enlightened, but students who insist on projecting their emotional need for an external spiritual authority onto teachers that don't know how to manage that situation. It's really the students that need to take ownership of their own spiritual and emotional needs. As Thai Forest master Ajahn Chah put it: "You are your own teacher. Looking for teachers can‘t solve your own doubts. Investigate yourself to find the truth - inside, not outside. Knowing yourself is most important."
So pissed at Shiva right now. I thought I was the only one who'd received the third-eye massage. I guess he'll do that for just about anyone who's completed a 200- hour. ;)
You can always use coconut water as your liquid (super hydrating), and as far as the almonds, it will still be super healthy and delicious even without them. The thing with smoothies is that recipes are mainly just useful suggestions, but every has their own preferences in terms of consistency and flavor. Play around with a few combinations until you find what you like personally.
What do you suggest to replace the almonds and almond milk? My boyfriend has a severe allergy to peanuts and tree nuts. I was thinking Soy milk perhaps...
